The Russell Public Library Hoopla Subscription, which offers free checkouts of e-books, e-videos, and e-audiobooks to our patrons, is part of a larger subscription coordinated by the Central Kansas Library District (CKLS). CKLS voted to cease offering Hoopla on February 28, 2025. Each local checkout on Hoopla costs the Russell Public Library between $2 and $4, and due to rising costs, it is no longer fiscally sustainable for our library or CKLS. Hoopla will no longer be available through our library at the end of February.
However, Libby, the app for the Sunflower E-Library, will continue to be available. E-books and e-audiobooks on Libby are free to borrow with a valid library card. In fact, CKLS will invest more dollars into the Sunflower E-Library and explore new options for patrons who use the service.
If you enjoy e-books or downloading audiobooks, please download Libby and browse through their catalog for your next checkouts. Click "Libby" below.
Also, the State of Kansas Library offers other free e-books and e-audiobook platforms for adults and children. These are accessible with a State of Kansas Library Card, which you can apply for at the Russell Public Library. We can show you how to access these digital platforms.
We can help you get connected! If you are interested, please feel free to stop by the Library for assistance connecting to Libby and the State Library resources.
Our phone number is 785-483-2742, and we are in the library after 10am Monday through Saturday.
